Advantages of Bluetooth Technology
In recent times, connecting one device to another could not be done without the use of cable. With the advent of technology, such connectivity has evolved. Cables are no longer needed in order to connect one device or gadget to another that are situated a few feet away from each other. Thanks to Bluetooth technology this is all possible. The purpose of this article is to provide you with a brief introduction to Bluetooth technology and will show you what its advantages are.
The idea of Bluetooth was born from a decree that King Harald I of Denmark issued forth in the 930s. He asked for Sweden, Norway and Denmark to endeavor to communicate peacefully, in that decree, even though these factions were warring that time. The system was developed to allow various devices to connect to each other easily, modern developers particularly those from Sony Ericsson decided to use this term to refer to the system of connectivity they developed in 1994. Hence the birth of Bluetooth. The technology allowed for easy use of low bandwidth wireless connections. It facilitates connectivity to such devices such as cameras, computers, mobile phones and other electronic devices with each other through the use of radio frequencies. Bluetooth technology eliminates the necessity for cables by providing a small form factor, low cost wireless solution that links various electronic devices together. Bluetooth also allows the end-user to connect several devices easily and quickly and expands communications capabilities. It has completely revolutionized the personal connectivity market in that it gave the end-users the convenience of connection without the use of fixed type cables and lines. In addition, the Bluetooth radio is practically miniscule in size. As a matter of fact with such a size you can build it into one or two very small microchips that can be integrated into any electronic devise where wireless connectivity would be advantageous. With such benefit you can do away with annoying cables or large instruments that serve to make things a bit complicated.
Another advantage of having Bluetooth technology is simplicity. Bluetooth streamline the process of not having to use LAN or Local Area Network when setting up interconnections whether in homes, offices, or other places where computer use is necessary. Therefore, you do not need a USB cable when the need arise to transfer data stored in your mobile phone to your computer. You simply hook up your Bluetooth ready mobile phone to your computer if there's Bluetooth built into your computer, then proceed with the transfer. Bluetooth is similar to infrared, however, while infrared requires the other device to be within line sight of each other, Bluetooth is far superior because the technology can go through walls and similar obstacles. In fact, Bluetooth provides ranges of up to 100 meters. The low power and low processing with an overhead protocol is another advantage of Bluetooth technology that many end-users enjoy. This actually means that electricity is not necessary for the use of Bluetooth. There is no need for electrical outlets in order to have your gadget or device connected. It can easily be integrated into small, battery-powered devices, thereby rendering Bluetooth application virtually endless.
Of course, even if Bluetooth has several positive features, you can’t assume that it doesn’t have any downsides at all. Actually, there are currently two known disadvantages to this technology – data rate and security. While infrared can send data over speeds of 4MBps, Bluetooth can only transfer data up to 1MBps. Furthermore, since infrared requires line of sight of data transfers, security is tighter. On the contrary, the greater range and radio frequency of Bluetooth tend to make it more open to interception and attack; thus, there is little assurance as far as data security is concerned. Nevertheless, when it comes to short-range wireless technology, Bluetooth still holds the best place. If you have tried using it before, then you would definitely agree that it’s bound to stay as a top technology for a long time. |
